The album cover challenge launched in May 2020 was the birth of Meremeta Africa Beauty. The campaign was focused on helping makeup enthusiasts have fun and get the motivation to create during tough pandemic times. The partnership between Meremeta Africa Beauty and African women, particularly micro influencers in Kenya, that are passionate about makeup was strategic. The rationale was to show how colors on any music album cover can be recreated using makeup or a full transformation of hair and make up. This then led our audience sharing a photo or video of them with us.
We had over 100 looks within just 2 weeks from our audience based in Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt, Australia, and the UK. We also had over 1,000 comments in the video with the highest number of views as you can see here. The audience asked for more which called for part two of the challenge based on Sauti Sol’s, a Kenyan band’s, album ‘Midnight Train’.
